xbox 360 ring of death, what is MS doing?

Wednesday Aug 27, 2008

I recently got the Ring Of Death (the 3 red lights) on my xbox 360 console. It’s out of warranty and I don’t have the money to fix it. The worse part is that I know I’m going to buy another one to finish playing my games and for Halo 3, Fable 2, and all those other 360 exclusive games. Anyway, I was wondering (since I can’t find much on it beside people angry about their consoles dying) is Microsoft doing anything to eventually fix this problem? Are they planning of modifying the design so the systems last longer then 3 months? Is there anything being done to help make consoles last longer? (also, I did keep my console well ventilated and it still died.)
Don’t listen to what the support people tell you, Microsoft does fix broxen consoles if they are out of warrenty you just have to do a little work. What you need to do is to write a letter to the xbox legal group (the support people can give you the address). In this letter you need to explain how the problem happened to you, what you did (called support etc.) and that you are very disapointed. The final most important thing you need to do is to state that you know what the problem is with the xbox 360’s (the solder comes undone from the gpu) and threaten lawsuit. I did this after reading about it on the internet and not a week after recieving my letter I had a box to send my broken xbox back in and i didn’t pay a cent. If you would rather try and fix it yourself there are several sites on the internet that can help you, but you will need a heat gun and some basic electronics skills. In response to your other main question, no nothing is being done to try and fix the problem with the xbox 360 at this time. Most people hope that the new 65mm xbox’s will fix this problem whenever they finally come out. Hope this helps you out.

XBox Problems - Do You Have A Trapped Game Disk?

Friday Aug 22, 2008

Your favorite xbox game is trapped inside your 360 console and of course you would like to retrieve it. This is just one of the 360 common XBox problems. Before you try to manually remove your game disk, disconnect your console from the power supply and let your XBox reset itself. Re-connect the power supply and try to eject it.

If that exercise failed to retrieve the game then you can remove your game disk manually. Again, switch off the unit and disconnect the power cable. With a straightened end of a paper clip or similar object, remove the XBox console faceplate, when the faceplate has been removed you should be able to see two small holes immediately underneath the consoles DVD player with one hole placed to the right.

Microsoft utilized three different types of drives in the production of their XBox, so this procedure will vary a little with each drive. Use the small hole to the right if you have a Toshiba or Samsung, for Hitatchi DVD drives use the first hole on the left and for Beng DVD drives use the middle hole.

Once you have found your correct hole, push the straightened paper clip into it until it hits the gear, you should feel it connect with the gear. The gear needs to be rotated from left to right. When you have found it gently push in until you feel that it moves and you should see the tray starting to move out. Take your time and don’t push too hard, just in case you have not found quite the right spot. The Beng drive needs the most amount of pressure to get the gear turning. Once the tray begins to eject you can gently assist it on its way. Your XBox game should now be able to be removed.

If this technique did not enable you to remove your game disk then you will be able to do so by removing the DVD cover.

There are a number of reasons why your game disk may get stuck inside the console. You may have a broken gear that leads to loading problems. There are also quite a few plastic components contained in your XBox 360 drive, which can easily break. If any of these are the case then you are better off with replacing the entire drive, this would be a cheaper option than replacing the complete console, and fairly easy to do once the console is opened up.

Doing your own repairs for XBox Problems are relatively easy once you know your way around the inside of an XBox. Your own repairs can be helped by following a good XBox Repair Guide.
